H.E. Sheikh Joaan’s Olympic Glory wins
In the Prix Jean Luc Lagaradere (Grand Criterium), Group 1 race, it was celebration time for Qatar and H.E. Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani as his horse Olympic Glory won at the Longchamp racecourse in Paris on Sunday, October 7.
Olympic Glory gave H.E. Sheikh Joaan his first Group 1 win in Europe. The success came on the final day of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weekend.
HE Sheikh Joaan Al Thani had acquired the winning horse recently and was the favorite for the race today.
The Richard Hannon trainee was given a powerful ride by British champion jockey Richard Hughes. The race was for Euros 350,000. Olympic Glory kept out the challenge of Al Shahania Stud’s What A Name.
Sheikh Joaan’s Shaqab Racing Farm manager Khalifa Al Attiyah said: “We are very thrilled with this first Group I victory for Sheikh Joaan.”
Jockey Hughes said: “I was very worried about the ground conditions because he’s a really heavy horse, but he was fearless and he kept his head.”
“Olympic Glory had a good race. He did very well and managed on this ground, which isn’t easy for a two year old,” was the trainer’s reaction.
